Why Is Your Commercial Heater Not Reaching The Adequate Temperature?

by Enrique Griffin

Keeping your commercial building at a comfortable temperature in the winter is one of the most important things you can do, whether you have a retail store, restaurant, or industrial operation. Proper heat temperature means the people within your building are comfortable and warm in spite of the cold weather outside. Having a commercial heat system that will not distribute warmth throughout your building and keep it at an adequate temperature is a huge issue, but what would cause this problem? Here is a look at a few reasons why a commercial heat system may not be adequately keeping the space at a warm enough temperature.

Lack of Proper HVAC Unit Size

In some cases, not being able to adequately heat your commercial building will not mean the system is not functional at all; it simply means that the unit you are using is not large enough to properly heat the space. When an HVAC system is too small, it will continuously run to push heat into the building, but will not be powerful enough to get it up to temperature. To determine if this could be the problem, pay close attention to how often the heating system is running, and get an assessment by an HVAC technician who is familiar with commercial heat systems.

Lack of Proper Building Efficiency

It may not be the HVAC system's fault that your building will not stay warm; it very well could be more of a structural issue. If the building you are in is not well insulated, not properly weatherproofed, or otherwise not tightly sound, you are probably losing heat as it is produced. For example, if you do not have a counteracting heat fan at the entry doors, you will lose a lot of heat every time the doors open.

Lack of Proper HVAC System Maintenance

Whether you have a heat exchanger, a forced heat system, or otherwise, proper maintenance is of the utmost importance. Lacking maintenance can lead to your heat system not properly functioning and providing heat to the building. For example, if the filters on a forced-air heat system are not regularly changed, the system can ice over and begin to produce cooler air than usual. Likewise, if a heat system is not clean, you could have similar problems. Make sure you are following maintenance protocols for your specific commercial heating system so you do not end up with a building that is colder than you want.
